Vaughan grew into one of Ontario's major construction, building supply and distribution centres, with a dense population of contractors, suppliers and logistics operators along the Highway 400 and 407 corridors.
Coordination, not production
In a contracting or supply business of 15 to 60 people, the expensive repeated work is almost never the trade itself. It is confirming schedules, chasing certificates of insurance and WSIB clearances from subcontractors, matching delivery tickets to purchase orders, and rebuilding a progress report every Friday from three sources.
Subcontractor compliance documents are the clearest example. Every one has an expiry date, somebody has to notice it, and the consequence of missing it is real. It is a small workflow automation at the $2,500 to $5,000 end, and it removes a category of risk rather than a category of typing.
The quote and the takeoff
The second candidate is quoting, for the same reason it is in every fabrication and contracting business: one person writes them all and the queue is the constraint on growth. What I will not do is let a model produce a price. It drafts the document; the estimator owns the number.
If you run crews and the phone is unanswered between five and eight in the evening, look at after-hours intake before anything internal. In trades and supply the cheapest lead is the one already calling you.
